When a woman loses her partner, she often loses her family's only source of income overnight — and is left to raise her children with little support and few options. Our Women & Widow Empowerment programme exists to rewrite that story, one woman at a time.
Capital, skills and community
This cohort brought together widows from across our host communities for a programme built on three foundations. First, seed grants to provide the start-up capital that so often stands between a good idea and a working business. Second, financial literacy and business training — bookkeeping, savings, pricing and the practical skills of running a small enterprise. Third, and just as important, a community: peer support groups where women encourage one another and share what they learn.
Early wins
Many participants have already launched small trades and cooperatives — petty trading, tailoring, food processing and more. What stands out is not only the income, but the change in confidence. Women who arrived uncertain are now planning, budgeting and providing for their children with pride.
Why it matters
Empower a woman and you empower far more than one person — you strengthen a family and, over time, a whole community.
This is the work we are proud to keep doing. Fund a widow's grant or partner with us to help us reach more women.
