When Chiamaka Okoro first stepped into the classroom of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta—her books in hand and her heart full of hope—she knew this moment was made possible by more than just her own determination. It was made possible by you: donors, volunteers, and supporters who believed in her potential when the world saw only her circumstances.
Chiamaka, 19, grew up in a low-income household in Enugu State. Her father passed away when she was 12; her mother, a petty trader, struggled to feed and educate her three children. Despite ranking among the top 5% in her WAEC exams, Chiamaka faced the heartbreaking reality of having to abandon her dream of becoming a teacher—until Cheriven stepped in.
In 2024, through our “Secure the Future” Scholarship Programme, Chiamaka was awarded full tuition, textbook support, and a monthly stipend for accommodation and meals. But the scholarship wasn’t just financial—it came with mentorship, career guidance, and access to our peer support network.
“Before Cheriven, I thought education was a luxury I couldn’t afford. Now, I’m not just studying—I’m thriving. Last semester, I led a community literacy drive for out-of-school girls in my village. That’s the power of opportunity.”
— Chiamaka Okoro, Year 2, Primary Education
Today, Chiamaka is an active member of the Student Volunteer Corps, tutoring younger students and advocating for inclusive education. She plans to return to her community after graduation—not as a beneficiary, but as a change-maker.
At Cheriven, we don’t measure success in numbers alone. We measure it in transformed lives, renewed confidence, and ripple effects that reach far beyond one individual.
